Amazon’s Blackberry Kindle Reader Download Problems

Amazon’s Blackberry Kindle Reader Download Problems

I read my e-mail this morning and found a message that Amazon released their Kindle reader for BlackBerry devices. I have been looking forward to this software release for the last few months. I eagerly clicked on the download link on my BlackBerry Storm2 and waited. I knew it would be slow as many people would be doing the same thing this morning. When the web page timed out, I simply clicked on it again, and again, and again, and again. Well OK maybe I just needed to wait until lunch time.

While having lunch with some colleagues today, I had my hand tapping the download link every minute or two, but to no avail. Timeout after timeout was all that greeted me. A little frustration was beginning to build. Before I left the office parking lot to head home, I tried a few more times. When I was stopped on the freeway several times, as is the ritual of the afternoon commute, I tied again. No luck whatsoever today; I am glad I am not heading out to Vegas anytime soon.

Tonight my luck has not improved, and now I am really glad that I am not going to Vegas. I must have clicked that download link a hundred times or more, but all I get is the browser scoffing back at me with more timeouts.

I love my Amazon Kindle and have been a big advocate of the dedicated ebook reader for the last couple of years. I really do wish I could get the Kindle reader application downloaded so I can use it on my BlackBerry. There are many times that I end up waiting around for something when I do not have my laptop. I look forward to being able to read a book during that downtime. I am disappointed that Amazon has not dedicated more resources from its huge cloud infrastructure to make sure the roll out of this application went smoothly. After all, they are no longer the only game in town. As a mater of fact they are late and now slow to offer a BlackBerry ebook reader.

Update 02/19/10 @6:18 p.m.
I was able to get the software installed on my Storm2!  Yea!  I am going to use it for the next couple of days and then write about my experience.  So far, so good.

  1. I was as excited about the Kindle Reader for my Blackberry. I however had enough luck to click the link and download the app on my first try. After I downloaded the program to my BB everything went down the drain. I needed to restart my device and in doing so it crashed my OS system. 🙁 I refused to believe that I would lose my apps because of this. After a little Googling I was able to find the solution. Just in case this happens to you all you need to do is connect your BB to your computer and run the desktop manager. Select Application Loader and Start Add/Remove Applications. Once there Select the Kindle App and it will start removing it from your BB. Alas my BB was saved and everything started running as it did before I downloaded the App.

I think I’m going to hold off on this Download till Amazon removes the “Beta” to this app. 🙂

    The wait continues…

    1. Josie –

Thank you for the information as it may come in handy! I have not been able to get the application downloaded to my BlackBerry as I am still in the land of timeouts. I hope it runs a little more stable for me if/when I am able to download it.

      Thank you for your comment!

      Mike
