…Blog Change Log…

Why do I need a change log?
I don’t, but it is what us IT people do.

 Actively Researching or Testing Changes

  • Nothing going on here…strange…no new ideas for now

Ideas Under Consideration

  • Look for two or three guest posters
  • Do something different with posting series

Completed Changes

12/01/2009

  • Did something I have never done before. I completed a WordPress wipe and reload. I have been having some problems with the site loading in FireFox. Images were not displaying (just the alt tag) on 64-Bit Vista/Win 7 with FireFox. I hope the good old Factory Reset will do the trick. So far so good, but more testing is needed.
  • I cut way back on plugins and considered going back to a more basic theme. Who knows, I might end up changing. The site sure loaded faster with just three posts on the home page.

09/06/2009

  • Just a few changes this week.  I added the social networking icons on the homepage and installed MobilePress so the site can be viewed from mobile phone web browsers.  That plugin is zero configuration and works great right from installation.  The developers did a great job with it.

08/31/2009 – 09/01/2009

  • Oh, I made a few layout changes. I added the social media bar to the bottom of each post. I had to manually add the code to the single.php file to get it in the right place.  That was fun trying to get it to work the way that I wanted it to.

08/25/2009

  • I have discontinued the use of Entrecard and similar services as I feel they do not contribute to the quality of the blog.  I am sure traffic will drop by 30%-40% to the blog, but the visitors that remain will be more beneficial. I am going to be more aggressive about marketing the blog in a more long-term traffic building mind-set.

08/21/2009

  • I have wanted to run a contest to give away a new copy of whatever book I am reading.  It is now finally live! I am using a WordPress plugin called Event Manager.  It works great for my needs!

08/14/2009

  • Removed a couple of plug-ins for adding items to social media sites.  Not the crowd that comes to my blog so out they go.
  • As I stated above, I am testing the book give away!

  08/12/2009

  • Added a plug-in for related posts.  WordPress and plug-in authors are so darn impressive with how easy they make running a blog.  My thanks to them all!
  • Updated the remainder of my out-of-date plug-ins
  • Reviewed and updated three of my most popular posts that bring in the bulk of my search engine traffic.

  08/10/2009

  • Finished the back-end Wordpress upgrade
  • Finished the front-end theme upgrade
  • Updated CommentLuv and it is now working again

  10/23/2008

  • Replaced contact form with something more functional (cformsII)

  10/13/2008

  • Updated the the Theme with the latest changes from the developer!  Thank you for fixing the conflict with AJAX plug-ins
  • Enabled CommentLuv again
  • Changed the date and time display values throughout the site
  • Added Post Views

  10/06/2008

  • Changed the date display and few other minor tweaks to the theme
  • Removed my shared Google News from the blog
  • Disabled all AJAX plug-ins because of a conflict…hmmm

  10/01/2008

  • Installed the new theme but I still have more work to do get some of the WordPress plug-ins to work

  09/19/2008

  09/17/2008

  • I could not sleep, so made the changes in the very early AM…hope I did not make a mistake!
  • Added “Read More” breaks to the last 8 posting and change the home page to display the last three posts.
  • Changed the default “Read More” text and right justified it.

  09/16/2008

  • Removed IntenseDebat commenting system. So no comment history, but I lost all my comment history when I changed blogging platforms and domain name a month ago.
  • Installed CommentLuv, that was real easy!
  • Added some of my favorite quotes to the left navigation bar
  • Reordered the right navigation bar
